Field Trip Report for Saturday, September 11, 2004

Diane, Dick and Dorothy enjoying lunch at Hardware Ranch, and our Fearless leader, Dick Hurren glassing the scene.
A small group of us set out on Saturday, September 11 for our field trip to Hardware Ranch, via Blacksmith Fork Canyon. Dick Hurren, Dorothy, myself, and newcomer, Diane, had a very enjoyable time birding that Saturday morning. It seemed that most migrants and summer birds had moved off and so we did not see too many birds. The highlights of the trip included American Dippers, a single Sharp-shinned Hawk, Red-naped Sapsuckers, Belted Kingfisher, and a pair of Golden Eagles, along the road that is just South of Hardware Ranch. Other birds included a Song Sparrow, a pair of Townsends Solitaire, an American Coot, Mountain Chickadee, Black-capped Chickadee, American Kestrel, Black-billed Magpie, Barn Swallow, and a Yellow Warbler. Not many birds, but the weather was beautiful, the leaves are starting to change to their crimson and gold colors and the company was excellent.
