Field Trip Report for Thursday, December 23rd, 2004 (CBC Hotspots)
We went birding at the Logan Golf Course, stopped at many sites as we traveled north from the golf course to the Smithfield Cemetery, visited Mack Park, and sites in the vicinity of Benson. At the Smithfield Cemetery it was fun to see a White-breasted Nuthatch (this bird got Reinhard excited and moving rapidly to get the bird in his binoculars). We also saw two Barn Owls. At the edge of the cemetery, eating some apples, were several Cedar Waxwings.
At Mack Park we saw four Red-tailed Hawks putting on a gorgeous aerial display. At one point it looked as if two of the Hawks collided and locked talons. We looked for Blue Jays, but came up empty handed. We did see a Belted Kingfisher and a Brown Creeper.
